Real Beauty
Beauty is the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit, according to Merriam Webster.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And because Jesus is the way, the TRUTH and the life, beauty, real beauty, TRUE BEAUTY is what Jesus perceives as beautiful.
Some people (believers or unbelievers) believe that Jesus perceived everything as beautiful and thus they feel confused or discouraged as to their own individual beauty.
1 Peter 3:3-4 says that
<<Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be THAT OF YOUR INNER SELF, the unfading beauty of a GENTLE AND QUIET SPIRIT WHICH IS OF GREAT WORTH IN GOD'S SIGHT.>>
1. Beauty is a quiet and a gentle spirit
- Quiet: carried out discreetly, secretly or with moderation (based on Wikipedia); private, confidential, secret, discreet, etc. A quiet spirit is a meek and humble spirit, a submitted spirit that considers others more significant than itself.
- Gentle: kind, tender, loving, sweet-tempered, merciful. A gentle spirit is a soft, moderate, and tender spirit that is not easily angered.
The more we look like God, the more beautiful we are. Genesis 1:27 says
<<So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them ; male and female He created them.>>
This is why the children of God should strive to read the Word and live like Jesus did. This will enhance our contentment, our peace, our joy, our love for others, our confidence, which are truly beautiful qualities.
3. Beauty is purity (of thought and deed)
Paul says in Philippians 4:8
<<Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable,- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things. Let's examine the women in the bible, how beautiful they were because of their purity. Ruth was a noble and loyal woman. Esther was a pure woman as she served heartily and genuinely her uncle Mordecai before being brought to the palace. The Virgin Mary was pure as she saved herself for marriage, etc. These women were women of excellent thoughts and actions, which made them beautiful in God's eyes!
Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, let us be beautiful, displaying merciful, tender and humble hearts, pure minds and washing ourselves with the Word of God.
Heavenly Father, You are so beautiful and magnificent. I praise You because we are beautifully and wonderfully made. Please open our eyes to be aware of our own kind of beauty and the beauty of your creation so that you may be glorified in all. In Jesus Name. Amen.
